and the recent explosion in demand for energy from emerging
manufacturing giants has placed unprecedented demand on petroleum.
In the United States, an already excessive appetite for fossil
fuels continues to grow with no signs of slowing.
In addition, the global consciousness is warming to the fact
that the climate is changing as a result of the expansion
of the human population and the resulting increased use of
fossil fuels. Fuel supply economics and the support for more
environmentally friendly sources of energy have necessitated
an increasing momentum in the research, development, and production
of renewable fuels and energy sources which can provide viable
alternatives for the energy demands of tomorrow.
